Are you a runner? (hint: you most likely are)

While our name has the word running in it, we here at the Louisville Running Company want to make sure we’re inclusive of participants of all speeds and abilities. One of the hardest stigmas we have to combat is that you’re not a runner unless you run 50+ miles a week at a sub-8:00 per mile pace. That’s just simply not the case!

Runners come in all ages, sizes, and speeds. The only difference between the person who crosses the finish line first and the finish line last is the amount of time it took them to get there. They are both finishers, and they are both runners. Even if you are technically a walker, you’re a runner. Even if you’ve never actually run a race, if you run/walk for exercise, you’re a runner. Even if you haven’t completed a running race in years, you’re a runner. Don’t let the preconceived notions of what a runner is define you.

At all races I work, it is my goal for the last person who crosses that finish line to have the same great experience as the first person. It’s a big pet peeve when I see races running out of medals, bananas, or even water (yes, there are other issues with runner etiquette or runners taking multiple of an item, but we’ll get into that in a later blog post). The back of the packers worked just as hard, if not harder, to get there. They’re a runner, and they deserve all the runner benefits.

The Louisville Running Company is here to encourage runners of all forms. Come run, walk, skip, or jog with us!
